Front Porch

Welcome to GardenHomes.org – From Our Front Porch to Yours

Hi there, and thanks for stopping by. We are Tom and Melanie Nonmacher, the voices and hands behind GardenHomes.org.

Over the past 30 years, we have owned, lived in, and maintained several homes, each with its own quirks, challenges, and charm. Along the way, we have tackled plumbing fixes, built fences, planted trees, learned which bugs are helpful (and which definitely are not), and discovered what it takes to make a house truly feel like home.

This site is a place for us to share what we have learned. It is not filled with textbook advice or artificial fluff, it is real, practical know-how drawn from decades of doing it ourselves. You will find notes from our own projects, tips we have picked up the hard way, and ideas that have worked for us (and sometimes what has not).

Our gardening advice spans multiple growing zones. While we have spent most of our time in the United States, we have lived in areas with a wide variety of climates, and our posts reflect lessons learned from working with soil, seasons, and species across the map.

Our goal is simple: to help other homeowners and gardeners feel a little more confident, a little more capable, and a lot more inspired. Whether you are trying to fix a broken step, get your vegetable garden to thrive, or just want to make your place feel a little more personal, we hope our stories and tips are both useful and enjoyable.

If something sparks a question or you want more detail, please do not hesitate to comment. We enjoy hearing from fellow DIYers and gardeners.

Thank you for visiting our front porch.
Tom and Melanie
